Best Fixed Rate Mortgages

A fixed rate mortgage is one of many different types of mortgages a borrower can choose to select as a preferred option. There are a number of advantages of choosing a fixed mortgage rate. A fixed rate mortgage is a very effective way of organizing your personal finances.

As the name suggests, when choosing a loan, the borrower is given the facility to fix the mortgage lending rate over a period of time. This means that the repayments of the mortgage will be fixed and will not change throughout the specified period. By fixing the mortgage rate, the borrower is able to gain stability by planning their budget ahead knowing the payment amount for the coming months.


A fixed rate mortgage can typically be arranged for a varying number of years, going up to 5 years and more. Once the fixed rate period expires, the borrowers payments will change to variable rate. There is however the choice of re mortgaging to obtain another fixed rate loan over another fixed length of time for their property.

In contrast, selecting a variable rate mortgage means that the repayments on the mortgage will vary up, or down, with the interest rates that are controlled by the Bank of England. This can be unsuitable for people who want to be in control of planning their budget and finances for the future. The fixed rate loan gives the borrower certainty of knowing what they are expected to pay each month.
